Casting agent success for students
Students from the West Herts College BTEC and HND courses in performing arts were invited to audition for The Harris Agency, whose past clients have included stars of Eastenders, the West End and successful musicians.
Sharon Harris, the agency’s Managing Director challenged students to learn a monologue and then, just prior to the start of the audition process, asked them to perform the only most powerful six-line segment of their audition.
Performing Arts tutor Juliet Gallagher said: “Students are prepared throughout the year for professional auditions and it was great experience for them to undergo a casting opportunity with a theatrical agent.
“It was a tough process that highlighted the realities of the industry to the students. We always aim to provide our students with opportunities that will help them move forward in their career. Four students this year were successful and have already gone on to audition and get paid filming jobs in the industry.”
Students John Ewart and Molly Bayliss were two of the successful students.
John Ewart said: “My tutor provided a fantastic opportunity for me to showcase my skills. It was great experience of a professional audition and put all that we’ve learnt in to practice.”
Molly Bayliss “I knew about agents and how helpful they are in the professional world of acting, but I had no idea how to get one. Thanks to West Herts, I was given the opportunity to audition for a trusted agency and now I'm all set to attend castings around the UK."
