Career success for Travel and Tourism students
Our Travel and Tourism students, both past and present, have been celebrating success in the industry.
Nadine Jenkins - Emirates Airlines
Nadine Jenkins (pictured below), a former student, now works for Emirates Airlines, which is based in Dubai. She recently got in contact with us to share the story of her success, saying it’s “been an emotional rollercoaster”. She explained that the training is intense, including eight weeks of training, assessments and practicals on simulators. Nadine spoke highly of the job, saying: “People do say it’s hard and intense, and yes it is, but I’ve enjoyed myself. I now have a lot of knowledge of aircraft, and it’s been so interesting getting to know things. You make so many friends from all over the world here. If anyone from West Herts is thinking about becoming cabin crew, I would definitely recommend doing it!”
Chris Redjeb - Swissport International Ltd
Another success story comes from Chris Redjeb, who joined the College in 2014 and has now been offered a job at Swissport International Ltd. Chris will be staying on to do the HND in Travel & Tourism, which will enable him to continue his studies and possibly progress to an Honours degree. Chris spoke highly of the course and his tutors, saying: “The tutors and Head of Travel and Aviation, Julier Kirby, have provided me with a path into the aviation industry where I have confidence, knowledge and resources which will aid me for many years to come.”
Esa Lobendhan - Swissport
Esa Lobendhan also joined the College in 2014 and has since found success with Swissport. She plans to go to university to study a BSc in Aviation Management this September and spoke about the industry experience she gained through studying at the College, saying: “I have also gained employment at an airport as a passenger service agent over the summer, which will prove as an invaluable experience and, more importantly, something to put on my CV to help me reach my goal of becoming a manager in the industry, post-university.” Esa was also full of praise for the tutors that have helped her take her first steps towards a career in the aviation industry, and have helped her to accomplish so much.
Marcos Lima - Swissport
Swissport is also the company of choice for Marcos Lima, one of our Level 3 Aviation students who plans to work full-time before furthering his education at Coventry University, where he will study Aviation Management. Of the course, Marcos said: “It has definitely prepared me for working in the Aviation industry. For example, there are specific codes that you use when working in an airport – it’s like a whole other language, and I didn’t know anything about it before studying the course.”
Billy and Estella - Easyjet
Billy and Estella (pictured below) are former Aviation students at West Herts College. They now work for Easyjet as Crewing Officers. A Crewing Officer is a member of the Crew Control shift team, they are responsible for monitoring crew compliance and changing crew rosters to match operational requirements.
Billy and Estella recently returned to college, talking to current Travel & Tourism students about their career success.
Congratulations to all of these students on their incredible achievements! Remember... anything is possible!
