Business students attend Inspiring Women in Banking Conference
West Herts College’s Business students recently attended a one-day conference for young women aspiring to work in banking and financial services in Canary Wharf. The event, organised by HSBC and The London Institute of Banking and Finance, focused on the opportunities for young females to forge successful and fulfilling careers in banking and finance services sectors.
Our students were given the opportunity to meet a number of industry experts who shared their experiences of working in banking. The students also completed employability skills sessions to improve their CV writing and interview techniques.
Students took part in workshops, met with employers and listened to a number of talks, including one from Ian Stuart, the CEO of HSBC.
Rebecca Nolan, a second year Level 3 Business student, said: “Overall I found the whole day hugely beneficial and I would strongly advise other young women to attend events like this one. You get the chance to network and learn from the industry experts. The workshops also provide you with skills that prepare you for life after College.”
Business tutor, Edith Amoah, said: "It was a really well planned conference with a great opportunity for networking. I am so glad that as a result of the event, the girls now see the banking and the financial industry from a different perspective; which no doubt will aid them when making future career decisions.’’
Business student, Dominika Nowicka, explained how the conference has changed her views: “I am really happy I was able to attend the conference and hear about some of the opportunities available for women in banking. It was deeply inspiring and a real eye opener for me, as I hadn’t thought about a career in banking up until now. Meeting these amazing women has encouraged me to not be put off by the fact that banking is a male dominated industry!”
