BIMA Digital Day
Schools and Colleges up and down the country had the opportunity to partner up with a digital agency for the day, offering their students the chance to work to live brief and find out more about this rapidly growing industry.
BIMA is the national trade association for the digital industry and first launched the Digital Day project last year. Sixty four students from West Herts College took part in BIMA Digital Day, partnering with international digital marketing agency ThinkJam – who can count work on The Great Gatsby, The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug, Girls and Big Bang Theory amongst their impressive portfolio.
The day was aimed at students aged 18 and under, but keeping in with the digital theme the day’s events were tweeted live by student Holly Alderson. Holly, who is studying for a Foundation degree in Graphic Design said: “It's a fantastic and rare opportunity to work on alongside such a brilliant agency and on such interesting projects too. It’s also a great chance to find out more about an exciting industry that is changing all the time” For more on the day search the hashtag #BIMADDay on twitter.
Students from graphic design and digital media courses were separated into small groups and had to present their ideas at the end of the sessions. The students were given three distinct challenges to work on covering mobile apps, connected devices and social media. The challenges included putting mobile devices to good use in your community and making something brilliant from the 500 million files that are uploaded to social networking sites every day.
