School Leavers Courses

What courses do you offer?

We offer a wide range of courses at West Herts College. You can find out more about these in the 'School Leavers Courses' section of our website.

How do I apply?

Once you have found the course you are interested in studying, you can apply online by clicking on the ‘Apply Now’ button located at the bottom of the course page.

Can I apply for more than one course?

Yes, you can. However, you can only study one course at West Herts College but there’s no pressure to decide which course you’d like to do until you receive your GCSE results. Level 3 Extended Diplomas are equivalent to studying 3 A-Levels, this means you can achieve the exact same number of UCAS points as you could by studying at sixth form.

Is there an application deadline?

No, we accept applications throughout the year but we would advise you to apply sooner rather than later so can secure your place.

What happens once I have applied?

Once you’ve applied, our Admissions Team will contact you with an invitation to attend a College Introduction Meeting. This is where you’ll find out more about your course and college life, have the chance to take part in a Q&A and secure your place on your chosen course.

We recommend submitting your application online, we also have paper application forms available in the back of our prospectus - you can order one here.

What happens at my College Introduction Meeting?

These meeting are group meetings where potential students are invited to hear from the Head of Department for their chosen area. You'll be told everything you need to know about college life before having the chance to meet with course tutors and get plenty of detail on your chosen course.

If you've chosen a practical subject area then there may be some opportunities for you to get involved at your visit, we also host taster sessions in the summer and you can attend our Open Days to get more hands on if you would like.

Students who have applied for a Performance based course such as Performing Arts, Music or Dance, will take part in a creative showcase to help the tutors make sure that the course is right for you. Our admissions team will contact you once you've booked your meeting with further information about what to expect.

There are opportunities to book in for a meeting with our student support or learning support teams, if you’ve indicated you have particular support requirements on your application then our team will be in touch with you.

Free parking is available to visitors on campus, we recommend arriving 15 minutes ahead of the start time of your meeting to allow time to sign in and be directed to your group meeting.

If I've applied for more than one course, do I need to attend more than one meeting?

In most cases you need to attend a meeting for each course you are interested in studying so that you have all the information when it comes to making your decision. If your chosen courses are closely aligned in terms of the skills, knowledge and future career paths (for example L3 Music Practice and L3 Music Production) then you will not need to attend multiple sessions.

What happens after my meeting?

Providing you're happy with your chosen course and there are no further questions, you'll receive your conditional offer a place. This offer is based on meeting the listed entry requirements and a satisfactory reference from your school or college.

We'll keep in touch with more information about college life and what to expect when you join us in September.
