Abbot's Hill students attend WISE event

A group of students from Abbot’s Hill School recently attended a ‘Women in Science and Engineering’ event at our Kings Langley campus.

64 Year 8 girls had the opportunity to get involved in science and engineering at the event at West Herts College, supported by a team from Atlas Copco who helped across a range of activities.

There were six different activities for the girls to get involved with throughout the afternoon: Computer-aided Design, Electronics, Robotics, Electrical, Plumbing and Welding. The students were divided into groups and got stuck in straight away, spending time using the virtual welding software and learning how to wire a plug, among other activities.

Angie Baker, Physics teacher at Abbot’s Hill School, commented that “all the girls had enjoyed themselves, and that the plumbing task was their overall favourite.”

The event aimed to get more young girls interested in a career in Science and Engineering – currently only 13% of the overall UK STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) workforce is comprised of women.
