Hourly Paid Learning Assistant in Building Services

This exciting opportunity will allow the right individual to pass on their knowledge of the construction industry to students of all ages. This is a hands on role where you will spend the majority of your time in our workshops, supervising and coaching students whilst assisting the tutors to facilitate an environment in which our students can excel. You will also help maintain the workshop space, order supplies and set up practical activities for lessons. The successful candidate whilst working primarily within the carpentry workshop, may also be required to support across plastering, bricklaying and multi trade qualifications.

Key to this role is knowledge of the industry and the ability to prepare our students for the world of work. Sharing your insights and bringing the subject to life by relating the curriculum to day to day work in the trade. Having an industry relevant qualification would be an advantage but is not essential.

You will need to be flexible in your approach and willing to maintain an up-to-date understanding of developments within the industry. You will be a role model for professionalism and seek out opportunities within the workshop environment to support the development of wider skills such as English and Math’s. The successful candidate will be working approximately 20 hours per week, this position will initially be for a fixed term period starting in January until July 2020 and will be reviewed annually.

The successful candidate will join the School of Building Services.
