Introduction
Study this course and you’re set up for a range of careers with tour operators, hotels, airlines, airports, cruise ships or travel agencies. With these solid foundations you can look for work straightaway or study further as the basis for a career in travel and tourism management.

Entry Criteria
4 GCSEs (A*–C/9-4) including English or maths, or Level 2 Diploma or equivalent.
You will also be invited to a Course Introduction Meeting.

What will I study?
Develop your knowledge and experience of the sector with subjects including:

Investigating travel and tourism - develop the knowledge and understanding of the travel and tourism sector, its component industries, their role and the interrelationships within the sector

Conference and marketing - understand the background and concepts of marketing and the factors that influence marketing decisions. Gain skills in practical activities: investigating the marketing mix of a specific travel and tourism organisation; planning, designing and conducting a market research activity; planning a promotional campaign and designing promotional material

Specialist tourism - develop the knowledge and understanding of the growth of the specialist tourism market and apply research skills by profiling a specific specialist tourism market

Hospitality and customer service - develop the knowledge of hospitality providers within the travel and tourism sector, and the products and services they offer to meet different customer expectations

Resort representatives - develop the knowledge of the roles, duties and responsibilities of different types of holiday representatives and gain understanding of the importance of creating a safe and healthy holiday environment

European destinations - gain the skills to locate and explore the diverse destinations that make up the European travel market. Develop the knowledge of the appeal of destinations for different leisure experiences and gain an understanding of the factors affecting the development and decline of selected destinations

Working as a children's rep - gain knowledge of the role of the children’s representative within the children’s club and, in particular, their responsibilities in relation to health, safety and security
You will have the opportunity to go on an overseas visit and experience a destination as a professional in the industry. There will be guest speakers from airlines, hotels and airports and trips to cruise ships and the World Travel Market exhibition.
There will be opportunities to improve your English and maths and take part in GAP work placements to develop the skills employers are looking for.

What can I do next?
Continue your studies at a higher level with the Travel and Tourism Management HND at the College. You can also find jobs including: travel agency management, overseas rep or member of cabin crew. You’ll also be able to work in airport ground staff, hotel administration or event management.
