Level 3 Diploma/Extended Diploma in Sport - West Herts Football Programme
Introduction
Welcome to the West Herts College Football Programme.
This bespoke course includes practical football experience and competition against other academies in the London and South East region.
You will be taught the skills required to help you progress to a higher standard of football, as well as gain the necessary experience to work within the sport and leisure industries.
All students will work towards a Level 3 Diploma/Extended Diploma in Sport, with opportunities to complete additional coaching qualificiations.

Entry Criteria
4 GCSEs (A*-C/9-4) including English or maths, or an equivalent qualification, plus successful football trials.
You will also be invited to a Course Introduction Meeting.

What will I study?
You will receive a comprehensive grounding in the theoretical studies alongside daily training. You will be taught the skills required to help you progress to a higher standard of football as well as gain the experience necessary to work within the sport and leisure industry.
All football students will work towards the Level 3 Diploma/Extended Diploma in Sport.
You’ll study a range of specialisms, including:

Anatomy and physiology - explore the structure of the skeletal, muscular, cardiovascular, respiratory and energy systems as well as additional factors which affect sport and exercise performance.

Psychology for sport performance - explore individual psychological factors that can influence performance, the psychological aspects of environments that sports are played in and the influences that others can have on performance.

Sports nutrition - explore the process required for screening clients and assessing their lifestyle and nutritional intake, develop action plans to improve client nutrition.

Practical sports activities - develop your own practical performance in selected sports, focusing on the application of skills, techniques and tactics and reflecting on your performance.

Sports massage – explore a range of massage and physiotherapy techniques for sports recovery.

The athlete’s lifestyle - interpret lifestyle factors and health screening data to develop and justify a fitness training programme.
FIXTURES AND TRAINING
Whilst on the course your timetable will be split between the training ground and classroom. Scholars will train up to 6 hours each week. During this time you will participate a number skills and tactical based sessions, which will further improve you physically, mentally and tactically knowledge.
All the practical elements will be delivered by our experienced F.A qualified coaches. Games will primarily be played on Wednesday afternoons with us participating in highly competitive U19’s National Leagues.

What can I do next?
Upon completion you'll be qualified to join a higher education course. Successful students may also be ready to take up a career in coaching, as a sports assistant or in sports development or other related roles.
