  • What will I study?

    Outdoor activities and class-based projects will help you develop a variety of new skills. It’s also very hands on – with projects including:


    • Carrying out security searches - an introduction into the effective searching of people, property and premises and the considerations around staff protection and the consequences of poor searching


    • Planning and navigating a route - learn how to navigate using a map and compass, then put classroom skills into practice


    • Taking part in sport and adventurous activities - this is an opportunity to take part in a variety of sports as well as other outdoor activities


    • Contributing to your community - an insight into volunteering opportunities within the community as well as government, public services, and the military


    Visits by the Marines will put you through your paces on a fitness training programme, with marching and drills building self discipline and working with radios developing communication and team work.

    You’ll have the opportunity to take part in local community projects and will learn about the different public services sectors with visits to HMS Westminster, in London, to find out more about the navy, plus talks by the army and police. As part of your projects you will plan and risk assess activities including caving and rock climbing.

  • Future Prospects

    You can progress to the Level 2 Diploma in Public Services and, with further study and training, start your career in the public or emergency services.
