What will I study?
Outdoor activities and class-based projects will help you develop a variety of new skills. It’s also very hands on – with projects including:

Practical teamwork in public services - learn about the benefits and requirements of team working. Investigate how to plan effectively for team work and how to develop a role within a team

Health and fitness - learn about the levels of physical fitness required by a uniformed service and understand how to undertake exercise safely

Public service careers - gain an insight into employment opportunities and requirements within the uniformed services

Self management skills - explore issues of self-management and discipline in relation to participation within the uniformed services

Community action - explore the key organisations involved in the protection of communities and understand how hazards and risks to individuals and communities are managed by the public services

Public service incidents
Visits by the Marines will put you through your paces on a fitness training programme, with marching and drills building self discipline and working with radios developing communication and team work.
You’ll have the opportunity to take part in local community projects and will learn about the different public services sectors with visits to HMS Westminster, in London, to find out more about the navy, plus talks by the army and police. As part of your projects you will plan and risk assess activities including caving and rock climbing.
Alongside your course you’ll study English and maths and take part in GAP work placements to develop your confidence and readiness for employment.
