Calling all singers, guitarists, bass players, keyboard players, and drummers. This music course has been developed especially for you!

We can help you prepare for the presentation of live performances. You’ll improve your skills as a musician, learn new and different styles of music and improve your ability to play with groups of musicians. You’ll also learn a lot about the music industry in general, as well as understanding the role music plays in culture and society.

You should be interested in a career in the music industry or related fields. But this course will also suit people looking to take their talent in a new direction.

  • Entry Criteria

    4 GCSEs (9-4) including English, or Level 2 Diploma in music or performing arts. You will be invited to showcase your talents to our course tutors you will also be invited to attend a course introduction meeting.

  • What will I study?

    You will study:
    • Genres of popular music - understand the stylistic elements of improvisation across a range of musical genres.
    • Band studies - work with your peers to understand how to run and be part of a successful band.
    • Music industry - know and understand the different roles in the live music industry.
    • Improvisation - be able to improvise music in response to a stimulus in contrasting styles and by responding to other musicians.
    • Theory and harmony - harmonise melodies using chords and transpose melody and harmony to related keys.
    • Music around the world - know the role of music in different cultures, understand musical features of a range of world music traditions and identify some of the influences of world music on different genres of Western music.
    • Instrumental study - know the varying instrumental styles of popular music and how to use effectively.
    • Critical listening - know the musical components in recordings or performances.

  • Future Prospects

    Examples of further study include: HND Music at College, BA(Hons) Popular Music and Recording, BA(Hons) Jazz Studies and/or BTEC HND in Music Instrument Technology. You could be ready to launch your career straight away, whether that’s performing, teaching, composing and arranging, technical support or management and administration. There’s also a range opportunities in the publishing and retail sectors.
