You’ve got your Level 2 Motor Vehicle qualification so now’s the time to step on the accelerator and get the Level 3 skills needed to open up a whole new world of opportunities.

Your career options range from garage and shop floor positions to technical development. Vehicle ownership is rising and the industry is in constant need of bright young people committed to building their careers around cars.

  • Entry Criteria

    Successful completion of the Level 2 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance.

  • What will I study?

    Training includes up-to-date, in-depth knowledge of modern motor vehicle systems, repair, construction, and associated studies. Learning is through a mix of theory and practice, with continual assessment and an end of year exam.

    Our motor vehicle engineering workshops are well resourced and kitted out with industry-standard equipment including high-spec computerised diagnostic tools, you will also study the following mandatory units:


    • Knowledge of health, safety and good housekeeping in the automotive environment
    • Skills in health, safety and good housekeeping in the automotive environment
    • Knowledge of support for job roles in the automotive environment
    • Skills in supporting job roles in automotive environment
    • Knowledge of materials, fabrication, tools and measuring devices used in the automotive environment

    You’ll also study mandatory specialist units, which may include:


    • Knowledge of diagnosis and rectification of vehicle auxiliary electrical faults
    • Skills in diagnosis and rectification of light vehicle engine faults
    • Knowledge of diagnosis and rectification of light vehicle transmission and driveline faults

    Optional units include:


    • Skills in how to make learning possible through demonstrations and instructions
    • Knowledge of inspecting light vehicles using prescribed methods
    • Skills in overhauling light vehicle transmission units

  • Future Prospects

    Successful students will be ready to find work. Progressing to university is another option, studying subjects such as motor vehicle engineering.
