A Supported Internship is specifically aimed at young people aged 16-24 who have a statement of special educational needs, a Learning Difficulty Assessment, or an Education Health and Care plan, who want to move into employment and need extra support to do so.

This course aims to support existing college students to transition to paid employment.

  • Entry Criteria

This course is designed for students who have already studied at the college and developed the required skills for working on a Supported Internship.

Typically students will be working at Entry 2, Entry 3 or Level 1. Students must have an aspiration to secure paid employment and be able to self-regulate to an appropriate level for the workplace.

Students on this provision may need support to acquire new skills which can be called upon to facilitate independent working. They will be able to demonstrate a range of work skills e.g. working with others, dealing with problems, following instructions.

Independent travel to and from their place of work is essential. Students with an Educational Health and Care Plan will require a review of their plan to ensure that the college can meet their specific needs and provide a suitable environment for learning.

  • What will I study?

Students will spend most of their time on the Supported Internship in placement. They will be expected to complete 16 hours per week in their placement and one day a week at college.

    Sessions at college will include:

    • Work Skills
    • English and Maths

Students will take Functional Skills exams, unless assessments indicate that exemption is appropriate.

  • Future Prospects

As this is an exit course, students will be provided with advice and guidance on provisions and services available to them as they leave college, to support their transition to adult life.

    The intended destination is:
