Pathways Entry 1
Introduction
This course is aimed at young people post-16 with moderate to severe learning difficulties and disabilities including ASD, at a range of levels within Entry 1. Students are taught in small groups supported by highly specialist and experienced staff.
The Pathways course at Entry 1 aims to prepare learners as they begin the transition to adult life. Learners take part in sessions that enable them to develop the skills needed for independent living, accessing the community and work. They receive 1 hour English and Maths sessions as part of their study programme.
We offer personalised services to support the needs of our students beginning with their transition to College and extending to all areas of campus life. Students will have access to specialist resources and support tailored to their individual needs.
This course will help develop the personal and work-related skills that enable students to progress into further learning, supported employment and will enhance their independent living skills.

Entry Criteria
We liaise closely with schools to ensure our students are placed on the correct course at the level most suited to their needs.

What will I study?
You will learn in small groups with your tutor and be supported by a learning advisor.
Tutors will create a learning plan to support your studies and meet your individual needs. This course offers a high level of support and is personalised to meet individual needs.
Units include:

Independent living skills - this includes travelling independently, time management, budgeting, preparing and cooking healthy meals, using Maths, English and ICT in real life scenarios

College-based work experience - this develops employability skills in a real work setting

Creative projects - learn how to take initiative and responsibility, build confidence, solve problems, work in teams and communicate ideas

Enrichment activities - these include working with Watford Football Club, Saracens Rugby Club, Sailing, Inter FE games, gym, swimming, biking, using a weight training and cardio vascular gym and a variety team sports
These will lead to a nationally-recognised ASDAN qualification at Entry 1.
As part of every student’s personalised learning plan, there will be interesting trips and visits within the community. There are also opportunities for work experience according to individual abilities. We have a range of supported activities including lunchtime drama, craft and dance clubs.

Students can progress onto other courses within the school of Foundation Studies or to provision within their local community.
