Thinking of a career in the electrical installation industry? The demand for professional expertise of all electricians is growing. Qualified electricians can choose from a range of specific occupations, from working on major construction projects to domestic work in people’s home. This course will provide you with an introduction to the skills and knowledge required to further your education with a Level 2 course, before pursuing a career in the electrotechnology industry.

This course is validated by City and Guilds.

  • Entry Criteria

    This is a skills-based course where most students will traditionally need to start at Level 1. As a future electrician, you will need to pass a colour blindness test.

  • What will I study?

    This course covers the essentials of electrical installation – the sort of work done in domestic properties. You’ll be studying in our specialist workshops at our Hemel Hempstead campus, learning from tutors with years of professional experience.

    The focus is on practical projects to develop essential skills. Complementing this is theory work in the classroom, with tutors on hand from day one to support you.

    Practical assessments and multiple choice exams will test your electrical knowledge.

    Course subjects include:
    • Practical electrical installations - plan, prepare and carry out hand fitting activities
    • Health and safety - explore the health and safety legislation that applies to the electrical installation industry
    • Basic electrical testing and maintenance - develop work plans containing job instructions, materials, tools and equipment

  • Future Prospects

    Successful students can progress to the Level 2 Diploma in Electrical Installation.
