NCFE CACHE Level 3 Technical Certificate in Childcare and Education (Early Years Educator)
Introduction
Are you interested in working in early years education or thinking of progressing on to higher education? This is a well-regarded course for leaders in childcare wishing to gain their licence to practice within the sector. This qualification sets the standards that all early years practitioners must meet to ensure that they are able to support and promote children's early education. It promotes teaching and learning to make sure children have the skills they need to start school with a broad range of knowledge.

Entry Criteria
4 GCSEs (A*-C/9-4), or a relevant Level 2 qualification. All students are required to have achieved GCSE English and maths at grade C/4 or above prior to starting the course. You will need to complete a DBS check.
We will also accept Functional Skills Maths and Functional Skills English at Level 2 only in place of GCSE grade Cs in these subjects. This must be achieved prior to starting the course.

What will I study?
The subject areas you study will be varied and relevant to the sector. In addition you will learn leadership and management skills, providing you with the tools you need to run your own nursery.
You will be assessed in a number of ways including external exams, written assignments and reviews at the professional placements you attend.
You will learn through theoretical study and practical experience, focusing on:

Child development - identify the transition of language and communication, physical, social, emotional and behavioural development

Child health - understand the needs of a child who is ill in relation to food and drink, personal care, rest and sleep, emotional well-being, observation and monitoring.

Observation and assessment - explain how observations are used: to plan for individual children’s needs, for early intervention, during transition and when working in partnership

Understanding children’s additional needs - understand biological and environmental factors which may result in children needing additional support

Professional practice - show theoretical application through skills and competence development in Early Years settings

Providing safe environments for children - understand how to safeguard children in relation to legislation, frameworks, policies and procedures

Play and learning - understand play and learning at different stages of children’s development

International perspectives - learn international approaches to children’s learning

Preparing for school readiness - summarise children’s progression, with regard to: communication and language, physical development, personal, social and emotional development, literacy, mathematics, expressive arts and design

Supporting emergent literacy and mathematics - understand the language, communication and mathematical needs of children

800 hours work-placement
Alongside your course you’ll study English and maths and take part in GAP work placements to develop your skills and confidence.

Upon successful completion you will be well placed to apply to university and progress to early years practitioner status. Careers include teaching assistant, nursery practitioner, playgroup leader, crèche manager and social worker.
