This course is for students who want to work as a multi-skilled operative in the construction industry. As well as bricklaying, painting and decorating, and carpentry and joinery, there are also opportunities to become a site agent, contracts manager or self-employed contract operator. This course provides you with the practical skills you need in order to gain a working knowledge of construction trades, allowing you to build a successful career within the industry.

  • Entry Criteria

    Applicants should have completed a relevant Level 1 course or completed sufficient work experience. You will be assessed to demonstrate that you can cover the range of skills required.

  • What will I study?

    Maintenance Operations is made up of a framework which includes:


    • Roof repairs – repair roof sheeting and cladding systems and understand how to repair and maintain built up bituminous roofing


    • Plumbing repairs and replacement - understand methods for repairing and renewing plumbing components, sink and sanitary ware, rainwater systems and flashings


    • Painting and decorating – learn the methods for hanging standard paper wallcoverings and learn how to prepare background surfaces for tiling, painting and decorating


    • Carpentry repairs and replacement - understand working methods for carpentry repairs and be able to remove and repair timber work, fencing and ironmongery


    • Brickwork repairs and replacement – understand methods for repairing and replacing damaged bricks


    • Block paving - learn the skills required to block pave and be able to lay bricks and blocks


    • Plastering patch and repairs – understand methods for repairing and renewing plastered surfaces and be able to remove and replace plastered surfaces


    • Rain water drainage systems

  • Future Prospects

    Upon completion of this course, you will have a good foundation for future career opportunities and will be able to progress to a Level 2 qualification in a specific trade.
