Level 2 Diploma in Bricklaying
Introduction
The construction sector employs some 8% of the UK workforce. Demand for young, qualified tradespeople is strong, with an estimated 180,000 new bricklayers needed by 2018 if demand for construction is to be met.
Good bricklayers are practical people who enjoy working outdoors and are happy to work at height. They also take pride in their work, knowing it will be on show for years to come.

Entry Criteria
Successful completion of the Level 1 diploma in brickwork, plus attendance at a course introduction meeting.

What will I study?
This course builds on the Level 1 Diploma, developing a wider range of skills from interpreting working drawings to building solid walling, cavity walling and masonry cladding.
You’ll be learning in our newly refurbished workshops, with our experienced staff supporting you every step of the way. The course starts with practical demonstrations of the essential skills before moving on to practice sessions.
Your course subjects will include:

Constructing masonry cladding

Setting out masonry structures

Constructing solid walling incorporating isolated and attached piers

Constructing cavity walling forming masonry structures
You’ll also develop practical English and maths skills and take part in GAP work experiences to get you ready for the world of work.

What can I do next?
Following successful completion you can progress to a work-based NVQ programme or take your knowledge to industry and begin working.
The Right Mix Once you're qualified to Level 2 in your chosen subject you could pick up another Level 1 qualification and become a kitchen fitter, bathroom fitter or branch out to other trades such as tiling or landscape gardening.
