The construction sector predicts 224,900 extra workers (44,980 a year) will be needed to meet UK construction demand between now and 2027.
Demand for young, qualified tradespeople is strong within the local and regional area. Learners will work alongside experience industry practitioners to develop the skills, knowledge and behaviours employers are looking for.
Successful completion of the Level 1 Diploma in Brickwork qualification or relevant prior knowledge or experience within the industry.
What will I study?
This course builds on the Level 1 Diploma, developing a wider range of skills from interpreting working drawings to building solid walling, cavity walling and masonry cladding.
You’ll be learning in our newly refurbished workshops, with our experienced staff supporting you every step of the way. The course starts with practical demonstrations of the essential skills before moving on to practice sessions.
Your course subjects will include:
- Constructing masonry cladding
- Setting out masonry structures
- Constructing solid walling incorporating isolated and attached piers
- Constructing cavity walling forming masonry structures
You’ll also develop practical English and maths skills and take part in on the job training to get you ready for the world of work. Towards the end of their course, you will also have an opportunity to complete the Level 1 Award in the Health and Safety in a Construction Environment which will enable you to sit yourr CSCS exam and apply for a CSCS card.
Following successful completion of your qualification, you can progress to a work-based NVQ programme or take your knowledge to industry and begin working.
Depending on your final grade and experience, you could move onto a bricklaying apprenticeship, straight into employment or continue training towards supervisory and management positions and qualifications within the construction industry.
