Carpenters and joiners make and install wooden fixtures and fittings as part of construction projects. As a job it’s a great way to combine construction with creativity. If you enjoy making things and are looking for a practical career you could find it very rewarding.

On this course you’ll gain a foundation qualification in carpentry and joinery. Our tutors gained many years of experience as carpenters and joiners before qualifying as teachers and always enjoy passing on their knowledge.

  • What will I study?

    The first few weeks will be spent building up your skills in bench work with a series of practical tasks. As a carpenter you’ll need to follow technical drawings and plans. So you need an eye for detail and good maths skills for measuring and working out angles.

    Course subjects include:
    • Knowledge of construction technology
    • Preparing and using carpentry and joinery portable power tools
    • Producing woodworking joints
    • Health, safety and welfare in construction

  • Future Prospects

    Following successful completion you can progress to the Level 2 Diploma in Maintenance Operations. You can also find work as an assistant to carpenters and joiners.
