Level 3 Diploma/Extended Diploma in Design: Product and 3D Design
Introduction
Study in our state-of-the-art 3D Design workshop packed with all the equipment you'll need to succed, get your hands on our industry leading 3D printer, bring your designs to life with CAD software and develop your products using raw materials.
By choosing to study design at West Herts College, you'll have the freedom to explore a wide range of design skills and techniques. Your second year of study will see you specialise in one of two exciting pathways; 3D Design or Product Design - the choice is yours.
Few creative industries are growing as fast as the design sector. It's all about creativity for the real world, and the opportunity to take your ideas and transform them into life enhancing solutions to the problems we face every day using drawing, digital design and model making.

Entry Criteria
4 GCSEs (A*-C/9-4) including English or successful completion of Level 2 Diploma, and a portfolio work.
Don't meet the grades? Take a look at the Level 2 Diploma in Art and Design for a solid understanding of key areas - you will be able to progress to the Level 3 upon successful completion.
You will also be invited to a Course Introduction Meeting.

In the second year of study you will be equipped to specialise in your chosen pathway:

You will study towards the Level 3 Diploma (90 credits) in your first year, and progress on to the Extended Diploma (180 credits) in your second year. Whichever pathway you choose to specialise in you will be well equipped to progress to top universities, alternatively you can continue your studies here at West Herts by choosing our Foundation Diploma or HND in Graphic Design.
Alongside your course you’ll study English and maths and take part in GAP work placements to develop your skills and confidence.

What can I do next?
Successful students can progress into work in junior positions in product or furniture design, model making, theatre design or jewellery design.
