This introduction to Art and Design is an opportunity to explore your creativity and raw artistic talent. You’ll learn to use different tools and techniques, developing new skills and helping you discover your preferred career path.

The one-year course is designed for those who are intrigued and motivated by Art and Design to explore, develop and test their creativity within a structure that provides a sound base of skills and knowledge, while enhancing self-confidence and revealing their own pathway within the Art, Design or Creative Media world.

    A passion to develop your creative side and examples of previous work.

  • What will I study?

    The emphasis throughout this course is on creativity. Students develop their skills using a variety of materials and techniques on projects designed to expand their artistic ideas. You will develop your portfolio of art and design work as you study the following units:


    • Introduction to materials, processes and skills in art, design and media
    • Introduction to contextual research in art, design and media
    • Introduction to communication skills in art, design and media
    • Solving 2D creative problems
    • Solving 3D creative problems
    • Solving time-based creative problems
    • Art, design and media project

    This course is taught in classrooms, specialist workshops and supported by visits to exhibitions and galleries. As your confidence and ability in your artistic talent grows, you are encouraged to focus on the many career opportunities available to you in the art, design and media industries. Art and design encompasses a variety of fields, including graphic design, photography, web design, illustration, fashion and textiles – so there are many different career options available whether your next step is to continue your education at a higher level or go into the world of work.

  • Future Prospects

    On successful completion of the Level 1 Programme, you can progress to Level 2 Diploma in Art and Design. Alternatively, you might want to seek employment in the Art or Design sectors or move on to a related vocational programme.
