Part Time Course code 7216

This course is suitable for those who have completed the Introduction to Spanish course or who otherwise have a knowledge of basic Spanish phrases and can conjugate common regular verbs in the present tense.

This course is intended for anyone interested in building on their basic knowledge. You will extend your use of the present tense and learn some phrases in order to speak a little in the past and future tenses also. It will allow for more effective communication with Spanish speakers, perhaps when on holiday in Spain or the Latin-American countries.

  • Entry Criteria

Knowledge of some basic Spanish phrases is required.

  • What will I study?

You will cover a range of useful topics including some, or all, of the following:

    • Describing your home and town
    • Presence and absence of things
    • Location of items in relation to others
    • Talking and asking about jobs and professions
    • Time expressions and talking about daily routines
    • Supermarket shopping
    • Expressing obligation (e.g. "I have to...")
    • Talking about the immediate future
    • Cultural awareness will be developed

There will be some flexibility to tailor the specific topic areas to the needs of the group. Grammar will be studied to provide for progression in the language but there will be plenty of opportunity for practising speaking skills.

No materials other than a pen and paper are necessary. It is strongly recommended that the vocabulary and phrases studied each week are reviewed between classes in order to get the most out of this course.

  • Future Prospects

This course will enable students to develop their basic knowledge of the Spanish language, allowing them to use past and future tense as well as the present tense, and to hold basic conversations using the learned language.
