On this course you will be making garments from commercial patterns and will be helped to assess your own ability to ensure that you start sewing at the right level. Suitable for beginners and if you have some sewing skills.

Entry Criteria
There are no formal entry criteria for this course.
Our part-time provision is designed primarily for adult students, aged 19 and over. Students aged 16 to 18 may be allowed to enrol on the course at the discretion of the Head of Admissions and Head of School. If you have any queries please contact our admissions team on 01923 812345. -
What will I study?
Areas for study include:
- Using tools and equipment safely (eg thread and use a sewing machine, use specialist sewing tools, etc).
- How to select the correct pattern and fabric for your project.
- How to use a sewing machine - sewing seams and seam finishes, inserting zips and buttonholes, and any other sewing techniques required for your garment.
- Understand types of interfacing.
For new students, the first lesson will be learning how to use the sewing machine and all materials will be provided for this. We will also discuss how to select patterns and fabrics.

You will now be able to progress to Dressmaking and Tailoring - Intermediate and further develop your skills.
