This 9-week course provides students with useful DIY and home maintenance skills, as well as an introduction into a number of trade related subjects for future interest.
There is no formal entry criteria for this course. However students will have to provide their own safety boots/shoes and overalls.
The course will be mainly consist of practical activities; however, an element of theory will be included.
Practical activities include:
Hanging curtain rails, shelves, cupboards and flat screen TV brackets to a range of different wall types
Tile a kitchen or bathroom splash back
Understanding domestic electrical circuits (lighting and power)
Wiring a plug and lamp holder
Connecting and extending TV coaxial cable
Painting and decorating techniques and knowing what products to buy
Strip and rehang wallpaper
Installing basic garden decking
Make and hang a garden gate and fence panel
Lay laminate flooring
Scribe and fit skirting board
Maintain gutters and rain water pipes
Reseat and re-washer a tap
Bleeding a radiator
Stop and service valves
Waste and trap maintenance
