Extended Degree Science is a one-year programme to prepare you for university. It enables you to explore biology, chemistry and physics, developing your understanding and helping you to reach an exciting range of innovative career paths.
The course is designed as a preparatory year enabling you to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills you need to progress to the first year of a University of Hertfordshire science degrees. After working in our industry-standard lab you’ll be prepared to step on to a full science degree in your chosen discipline.
We have a range of high-level, specialist facilities including a UV visible spectrophotometer and DNA PCR equipment (amplifying DNA).
We will also soon have a state of the art fourier transform infrared spectrometer (FTIR).
You’ll have your IT, numeracy and communications skills, readying yourself to excel in your chosen Honours programme. You’ll also have plenty of options, including biology, physics, psychology, electronic engineering and pharmaceutical science.

Entry Criteria
32 or more UCAS points which can be made up of at least a full 4-unit A level (A2), a BTEC National Award or equivalent plus GCSE at Grade D/3 or above or Grade 4 or above including maths, English Language and Science or equivalent.
Applications are also welcomed from mature applicants who are considered on the basis of employment experience in addition to formal qualifications.

What can I do next?
By the time you complete the course you’ll be ready to progress to an Honours programme at the University of Hertfordshire. Potential subjects include; applied biology, pharmaceutical science and sports science.
You could also put your theory into practice by entering the world of work. You’ll be well prepared for opportunities in the chemical and pharmaceutical industry, environmental science, teaching, and work in food-related industries.
