Fair Treatment and Support For All
Why a whole page on equality? Because West Herts College takes equality and
diversity very seriously.
It’s not where you come from, but where you are going that is important while
you study with us. The College welcomes students and staff from all backgrounds
and communities, and we guarantee that you will be treated fairly while you are
here. We have zero tolerance of discrimination, harassment or bullying of any
kind.
If you believe you have been discriminated against in any way you can use the
College complaints procedure to get a quick and just settlement. Your complaint
will be taken seriously and dealt with fairly.
The College is here to help you achieve your ambitions. We want you to aim high and
do well. We do not want anything to stand in your way. So, we provide a wide range
of support for those who need it – and most of us do need support of one kind or
another. For example, if you have Dyslexia, if you have difficulty with maths, if
you are hearing impaired, in a wheelchair, sight impaired, or need to improve your
English, we will provide you with the support you need to make sure you can
progress. No fuss, no problem. It’s your entitlement.
We have developed a Single Equality Scheme that describes how we ensure that all
members of the College are treated fairly. The scheme incorporates the Disability,
Race and Gender Duties. The scheme and Action Plan is available by clicking on the
link below but if you would like a copy of the scheme or the following policies,
please contact Gwyneth Lawson, Executive Assistant on 01923 812199.

The diversity of our students and staff is one of our great strengths. We have
students from many different ethnic backgrounds.
This is something we are very proud of. It contributes to the buzz and ethos of
the college which we hope gives you the environment you need to enjoy learning and
to do well.
No opportunity is off limits to anyone able to benefit from it. If you are a woman
wanting to be a car mechanic, a man keen to be a nursery nurse, a deaf person
wanting to be a teacher, or a pensioner wanting to become a computer whiz,
West Herts College will help you get there. That’s what equality is about.
This is a College where everyone is welcomed
and valued. Together we are a vibrant learning community. We guarantee fairness,
access and support so that you are left free to work hard and succeed. That is a
great learning partnership – welcome to West Herts College.
