Safeguarding our learners
West Herts College takes its responsibilities for the safeguarding of
learners very seriously.
Safeguarding is essential to assure the development and well-being of young
people and adults alike. The Government and the College aim to ensure that every
child, and beyond that, all of our learners, whatever their background or
circumstances, have the support they need to:
- Be healthy
- Stay safe
- Enjoy and achieve
- Make a positive contribution
- Achieve economic well-being
The College teams up with other services and agencies to share information
and work together to protect our learners from harm and to help them to achieve
what they want from their lives. While at the College or engaged in college
activities, the welfare and safety of learners is of paramount importance.
To that end, the College trains its staff on Safeguarding issues and its
procedures. We have appointed a Designated Senior Person (Gill Worgan,
Deputy Principal Quality and Curriculum) to lead on Safeguarding in the College,
supported by a team of Safeguarding Officers. In addition, two governors have
designated responsibilities for Safeguarding.
Safeguarding is at the heart of College life – this can range from the
appointment of staff, governors, volunteers and contractors and the required
checking procedures, to the curriculum itself and the College’s activities both
on and off its campuses. The Safeguarding of our learners is given the highest
priority and consideration.
