Your choices... your future
Learning is an important skill. Everyone continues
to learn throughout their life. At West Herts College our aim is to
help you develop your independent study skills as far as possible,
to enable you to get the best from all the support we offer
through our staff, through technology or other resources and through
peer support.
How we can help you learn
We have a range of specialist courses to meet your needs. They can help you
improve your communication skills, develop social and independence skills,
increase your confidence and help you lead a more fulfilling life. We work
closely with Connexions, mainstream and specialist schools providing a
positive transition from school to college.
Which course is right for me?
Pre-entry Level
- Pre-entry level courses offer you an individually tailored programme
designed to develop essential skills and to allow you to be as independent
as realistically possible. Programmes incorporate work on communication
skills, problem solving, working with and awareness of others,
selfconfidence, community and domestic skills.
Entry Level
- 1, 2, 3 Entry Level qualifications build basic knowledge and skills and
the ability to consolidate and apply learning in everyday situations under
direct guidance or supervision. These courses prepare students for life and
work and are aimed particularly at people who would benefit from a supported
learning environment, tailored to their individual needs.
Entry Level 3 Vocational
- Entry Level 3 Vocational involves a choice of career-focused subjects
and builds knowledge and skills supporting preparation towards specific
occupations. Students work in small groups in a supported learning
environment.
Level 1
- Level 1 qualifications build the foundation knowledge and skills and the
ability to apply learning with guidance or supervision. Learning at this
level is about activities, which relate mostly to everyday situations and
may be linked to job competence and preparation towards vocational
qualifications.
Level 2
- Level 2 qualifications are equivalent to GCSEs, from here students can
continue with their education or go into work.
We have a variety of opportunities for students to experience what it's like
to come to college and help in their transition from school to college
education. We offer transition opportunities at pre-entry and entry levels 1
to 3. For advice and guidance on all our courses, please contact us on 01923
