What are Apprenticeships?

Apprenticeships are training programmes for employees, tailored for full-time employees wishing to enhance their skills in the workplace and gain a relevant and up-to-date qualification.

At West Herts College we have wide ranging Apprenticeship programmes:

  • Professional cookery
  • Multi-skilled hospitality
  • Food and drink service
  • Front office
  • Customer service
  • Motor vehicle mechanics
  • Electrical installation
  • Plumbing
  • Hairdressing
  • Sports recreation

Trainees will achieve an NVQ qualification awarded by City and Guilds, based on assessment that takes place in the workplace.

All Apprenticeship programmes require learners to successfully complete some key skills qualifications as well as learning underpinning theoretical knowledge (technical certificate) that is central to their job. The programmes are delivered in small off the job workshops, either at work or at College (day release).
