Functional Skills

As well learning skills for work, you’ll also study - and will need to achieve - a minimum standard in English, maths and ICT. These skills are essential for success once you start work.

What can I learn?

The Diploma is normally a two year full-time course, and contains a mix of core and optional subjects. The core (principal) learning subjects will cover the main things you’ll need to know and be able to do in your chosen area delivered through developing your abilities in team working, problem solving, analysis and research skills - things that employers and universities really value.

The Diploma will help you to develop the vital skills you need for life and work, such as team working, creative thinking and self-management. You will learn and solve problems in situations relating to your chosen area of work and will develop the people and learning the skills you need for work and university.
